NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mississippi Christian lost to Trevecca Nazarene 6-2 on Saturday at Trojan Soccer Complex. The Choctaws finished with a 25-17 shot advantage and put 12 attempts on goal, while Trevecca Nazarene was credited with 10 saves. The first half set the pattern, as MC scored once on 12 shots while Trevecca Nazarene scored four times on seven shots.
The Blue and Gold earned an early corner at 2:56, but Trevecca Nazarene went in front when Chris Douglas scored from Haden Brown's assist at 3:51.
Karim Gegg sent a shot over at 9:02 before Douglas scored again at 13:00 off assists from Hunter Walker and Judah Jones, and Gegg put another attempt over at 14:53 as MC looked for a response. Santiago Dominguez saved Zion Jones' shot at 20:37, but Trevecca Nazarene added goals from Jack Franklin at 23:17 and Jones at 29:24 to move ahead 4-0. The Choctaws generated eight shots and three corners from 32:22 through 39:38, forcing four saves from Walker, and Gegg finished
Patrick Vukoje's assist at 44:54 as the first half ended 4-1.
Trevecca Nazarene opened the second half with pressure while the score was 4-1, recording four shots and four corner kicks from 46:08 to 55:04, including an Elias Lunde attempt saved by Dominguez. MC pushed back with a set-piece stretch and six shots from 60:28 to 68:14, with
Alvaro Pena forcing a save and
Hayden Mulrooney hitting the woodwork before
Harry McLean scored off
Benjamin Smith's assist at 69:42 to make it 4-2. Trevecca Nazarene added to the margin at 83:40 on Daniel Shiel's goal, assisted by Jack Franklin and Tomas Barros, and the Choctaws answered with a burst of shots that Hunter Walker saved on attempts by Gegg and Brody Tanner. The Blue and Gold turned sustained late first-half pressure into a goal at 44:54, when Gegg scored off an assist from
Patrick Vukoje to cut Trevecca Nazarene's lead to 4-1. Earlier, MC created early chances with a corner kick in the third minute and shots from Gegg and Pena, but Trevecca Nazarene scored in the fourth, 13th, 24th and 30th minutes to build a 4-0 advantage. The Choctaws pushed back from 32:22 to 39:38 with eight shots and three corner kicks, including saved attempts by Pena and
Lian Feridani. Dominguez also made a save on Zion Jones in the 21st minute, while the half included yellow cards to Pena and Judah Jones before MC went into halftime down 4-1.
MC's second-half breakthrough came at 69:42, when McLean finished Smith's assist to make it 4-2 after the visitors recorded six shots and a corner from 60:28 to 68:14. Earlier, the Choctaws absorbed Trevecca Nazarene's early second-half push from 46:08 to 55:04, a span that included several corners and a Dominguez save. The Blue and Gold generated its own chances before the goal, with Pena forcing a save, Mulrooney hitting the left woodwork and Smith sending a shot high during a set-piece stretch. After Trevecca Nazarene scored at 83:40 and again at 87:06, MC continued to create late looks, with Gegg, Tanner and Thomas putting shots on frame before the match ended 6-2.
Gegg scored and finished with six shots, putting four on goal. McLean converted his lone shot for MC's other goal. Pena added six shots, including three on frame.
