CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi Christian played Christian Brothers to a 2-2 draw Wednesday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Gulf South Conference play. The Choctaws scored once in each half, while Christian Brothers scored both of its goals after halftime.
MC took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Brody Tanner scored off assists from Karim Gegg and Luke Nolan. The Choctaws continued to create chances throughout the opening half while goalkeeper Elliot Duffy made two saves to keep Christian Brothers off the board.
The Blue and Gold extended the advantage in the 68th minute when Lian Feridani found the back of the net on his only shot of the match. MC had built pressure early in the second half, earning four corner kicks between the 56th and 62nd minutes and generating multiple chances.
Christian Brothers responded quickly, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 70th minute on Twan Roeling's goal. MC continued to push forward, with Benjamin Smith, Alvaro Pena and Johann Hobein each recording shots during the final 20 minutes.
The Bucs found the equalizer with less than a minute remaining in regulation when Marco Manuali scored in the 90th minute. Neither team found a go-ahead goal in the closing moments as the match ended 2-2.
MC finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and earned six corner kicks in the second half. Gegg led the Choctaws with three shots, while Nolan added two shots and an assist. Duffy finished with three saves in 90 minutes in goal.
Tanner recorded his first goal of the match, while Feridani added his first goal. Gegg and Nolan each finished with an assist.
The draw moves MC to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in GSC play, while Christian Brothers moves to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-2 in conference play.
The Choctaws return to action Saturday, traveling to Lee University for a 3:30 p.m. conference matchup in Cleveland, Tennessee.
