Choctaws Finish Fourth at Flames Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College men's outdoor track and field team finished fourth at the Lee University-hosted Flames Invitational. The Choctaws finished with 71 points during the two-day event.
 
Tiffin University, the 12th-ranked team in the country, took the top team spot with 156 points. Fourth-ranked Ashland University took second (78 points) followed by Carson-Newman College (73 points) in third.
 
The Choctaws finished ahead of nationally-ranked and fellow Gulf South Conference members, fifteenth-ranked Lee and seventeenth-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, April 17 as it travels inside the Jackson-metro area to take part in the Belhaven University Invitational.
SCHOOL RECORDS
- Gabe Poulin set the school record with a personal best time of 14:17.87. He finished seventh in the 5,000 meters.
 
EVENT CHAMPIONS
- The 4x400 relay quartet consisting of Fabio Palmieri, Dalton Dempsey, Rakeem Wilson and Will Grames posted a time of 3:17.41 to win the event.
 
TOP 10 FINISHES
- Daviciea McCartney recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the meet. McCartney posted a 52.38 in the 400 hurdles and added a PR distance of 14.76 meters in the triple jump. The distance also stands as a NCAA Provisional.
- The 4x100 quartet picked up the third second-place finish for the Navy and Gold as it posted a time of 41.26.
- Ben Woolhouse finished fourth in the pole vault as he recorded a height of 4.70 meters.
- Poulin finished fifth in the Invitational 1,500 meters as he posted a time of 4:03.92.
- Dempsey took fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.17.
- Jake Russell finished fifth in the 800 meters as he clocked-in a time of 1:53.29.
- Wilson finished seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 10.80.
- Evan del Rio recorded a PR time of 9:05.97 in the 3,000 steeplechase as he finished seventh.
- Palmieri finished seventh in the 200 meters with a PR time of 21.60.
- A.B. Williams finished seventh in the discus. He recorded a throw of 46.67 meters. Williams also finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 14.99 meters.
- Zach McManus posted a distance of 6.49 meters in the long jump to finish seventh.
