CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College head baseball coach
Jeremy Haworth announces the addition of Collin Cargill to his staff. Cargill comes to MC after five years as the Director of Baseball Operations at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Â
Cargill will serve as the pitching coach for the Choctaws starting with the 2022 edition.
Â
"I am happy to add Collin to our program. He brings a wealth of knowledge and energy that will help enhance the development of our pitchers," said Haworth. "I am really looking forward to working with Collin as he helps change the dynamic of our pitching staff. He genuinely cares about the players as people first and as well as investing in helping them reach their full potential."
Â
While at his alma mater, Cargill organized the teams fundraising and was the program's liaison with its booster club, "The Dugout Club" as well as assisting with Golden Eagle camps and on-campus recruiting.
Â
The Hattiesburg, Miss., native lettered for the Golden Eagles from 2008-11 and holds a share of the school record for career saves with 30. Cargill was a member of the 2009 College World Series squad and played in four consecutive regionals during his time in the Black and Gold.   Â
Â
"I am very excited about the opportunity to join Coach Haworth and the baseball staff at Mississippi College. They have created a culture around the program that I cannot wait to take part in," said Cargill. "I have been fortunate in my life to be around some great coaches and some of the great pitching minds around the sport, with the most recent being Christian Ostrander at Southern Miss. With the values that I have learned throughout my career in baseball, my goal as a coach and as a leader is, to help these young men achieve their goals not only on the field, but off the field as well."
Â
Cargill's former skipper at USM, Scott Berry said, "I am excited for Collin and the opportunity for him to join the Mississippi College baseball program. His time here as a player and as member of the staff were well served and we are grateful for his many years of hard work. I feel his knowledge of pitching and his competitiveness will have an immediate impact with MC."
Â
After his time at USM, the Miami Marlins, in the 22nd round, chose Cargill in the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft. He played four seasons in the organization making it as high as Triple-A. In those four seasons, he compiled a combined 13-5 record with five saves in 143 games pitched in relief over 189-plus innings, while also tallying 116 strikeouts.
Â
He joined the Golden Eagles after working with 59 Baseball, an area travel team.
Â
Cargill is married to the former Ashley Peterman. The couple have a daughter named Addison Kate.
