BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Gulf South Conference announced its Softball Players of the Week for the 2023 season with Camryn Bailey being recognized as the GSC Freshman of the Week. This week's awards were for games played between February 1-5.

Bailey had a solid collegiate debut in the circle for the Lady Choctaws, going 4-0 with five appearances and three starts. As a result, the rookie registered two shutouts, five strikeouts, allowed one earned run and 13 hits while posting a 0.30 ERA.

The Freshman help lead the Lady Choctaws to wins over Harding (4-3, 11 innings), #6 Texas A&M-Kingsville (10-0), Southeastern Oklahoma State (8-0), and Drury (4-2).

MC returns to action for the Charger Chillout on Friday with a double-header versus Carson-Newman (12 p.m.) and #20 Lincoln Memorial (5 p.m.) The Lady Choctaws once again will participate in a five game weekend series in Huntsville, Ala. hosted by UAH.

OTHER GSC WEEKLY HONORS
Player of the Week: LP Trammell, Sr., SS, West Alabama
Trammell helped West Alabama to a 4-2 record at the Gulf Shore Invitational. The senior was 7-for-16 (.438) at the plate with nine runs batted-in and three home runs. The weekend performance for Trammell was highlighted by a 4-for-4 effort which featured six RBI and two home runs, including a grand slam, in a 7-4 win over No. 5 North Georgia. Trammell also finished the weekend with four walks, four runs scored, and slugged 1.063.

Pitcher of the Week: Megan Shurtz, So., P, Alabama Huntsville
Shurtz helped Alabama Huntsville to a 4-1 record after the opening weekend of the season. The sophomore was credited a complete-game victory over Nova Southeastern in the season opener, as she tossed 7.0 innings with two strikeouts and scattered eight hits with one unearned run. She then worked 3.0 innings in a no-decision against Barry.
