Eaton Named GSC Softball Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Gulf South Conference announced its Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday Kamryn Eaton being tabbed the GSC Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend at Union. 

Eaton helped the nationally-ranked Lady Choctaws to a conference series win over Union, finishing the three-game set with three home runs while going 4-for-8 at the the plate.

The sophomore also filled out her weekly ledger with six RBI, scored three runs and posted a 1.625 slugging percentage. Her three home runs move her to second in all-time in single-season school history with 13 HRs this season and just one shy of tying the record.

Eaton and MC return to the diamond on Wednesday for a two game midweek series versus Spring Hill College, beginning with game one at 2 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.

Pitcher of the Week: Samantha Richards, Sr., P, Valdosta State
Richards had another outstanding weekend in the circle, going 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA in three starts and five total appearances as nationally-ranked Valdosta State faced Georgia Southwestern and No. 25 West Alabama. In 26 total innings, the senior had three complete games, one shutout and two saves. Richards allowed seven runs on 11 hits with six walks and 32 strikeouts as the aforementioned teams hit a combined .126 against her.

Freshman of the Week: Jayme Prandine, Fr., INF, Valdosta State
Prandine had a standout week for Valdosta State as it went 4-1 record while facing Georgia Southwestern and No. 25 West Alabama. The rookie notched a .333 batting average while going 4-for-12 at the plate, with two home runs, four runs scored, two RBI, and slugged .833. Prandine tallied the first run scored for the Blazers this week with a booming solo home run to open the scoring against Georgia Southwestern in what would be a game one, 6-4 victory. She also smashed a solo homer against No. 25 West Alabama, kickstarting what would be a three-run inning in the 7-4 game two victory over the Tigers.
