ATLANTA, Ga. --- Building on a stellar day one performance that included three broken school records, the Mississippi College Track and Field team continued to excel on day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational. The team brought home several event wins and lifetime bests, contributing to a total of 16 school records broken this year.
The Men's 4x400-meter relay team – featuring
Fabio Palmieri,
Brandon Williams,
Connor Stewart, and
Niklas Klei – conquered the event, stopping the clock in a NCAA Division II provisional standard time of 3:11.38. This stellar performance catapults them to the top of the Gulf South Conference, as well as a top-10 ranking nationally.
Lauren Wallace and
Haley Hall turned heads with their lightning-fast 800m times, clocking in at 2:12.5 and 2:15.8, respectively. Wallace now holds the No. 2 spot in Mississippi College history for the event, while Hall is hot on her heels in ranking third. Their performance also places Wallace third in the Gulf South Conference and Hall sixth, making her the top freshman in the event.
The Men's 4x100-meter relay team – starring the aforementioned Palmieri and Klei, as well as Kevin Turner and Shemar Patten – achieved the NCAA Division II provisional standard in their event, racing to a time of 40.87 seconds. Their electrifying performance earns them the No. 2 spot in Mississippi College history and second place in the Gulf South Conference. They also boast a formidable 24th position nationally.
The future is bright for the Choctaws as they prepare to compete on home turf at the Mike McMillan Twilight Invitational, taking place at James E. Parkman Track. With this being their final regular-season competition, the athletes will set their sights on Cleveland, Tenn. for the 2023 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where they'll undoubtedly continue to make their mark on the sport.
