NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Mississippi College is proud to announce that both the Men's and Women's Track and Field teams have earned places on the NCAA Division II All-Academic teams for the 2023 season.
The Men's team finished with a commendable cumulative GPA of 3.22, earning them a national ranking of 53rd in academic achievement, while the Women's team achieved an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.62, the 13th-highest GPA in the nation among NCAA Division II teams.
"We are incredibly proud of our athletes, both for their dedication on the field and in the classroom," stated Matthew Reneker, the head Cross Country / Track and Field Coach at Mississippi College. "Their academic success is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and a representation of our program's commitment to fostering well-rounded student-athletes."
In addition to the team accolades, several individual members of both squads were honored on the 2023 NCAA Division II All-Academic team, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.25 and achieving an NCAA DII Provisional standard mark in an event.
From the Men's team, the qualifiers were Jan Lukas Becker, Cole Benoit, Brock Kelly, Niklas Klei, Hunter Kurz, Fabio Palmieri, and Benjamin Woolhouse. Representing the Women's team were Kelechi Christian, Jazmin Hernandez, Essence Tornabene, and Lauren Wallace.
"These athletes truly embody the spirit of Mississippi College, achieving success both in their sport and in their studies," added the Reneker. "We're looking forward to building upon this momentum in the next academic and athletic season."
