Clinton, Miss — The Mississippi College softball team was ranked 24th in the nation by the NFCA preseason coaches poll on Tuesday morning.
Led by 18th-year head coach Brooke O'Hair, last season's team finished with a record of 43-12 and 24-6 in Gulf South Conference play, the most wins in school history in both categories.
O'Hair was named 2023 GSC Coach of the Year and the team reached the NCAA South Regional in Tampa, Florida.
Five different Choctaws were featured on all GSC teams, four were featured on All-Regional teams, and McCall Lee was named GSC Player of the Year.
Additionally, Shelby Samples was named GSC Freshman of the Week four times. Following an 8-0 win over Tuskegee the Choctaws' season ended with a 5-3 loss to Alabama-Huntsville on May 13.
The Choctaws will open the 2024 season on Friday, February 2 against #22 Oklahoma Baptist in Youngsville, Louisiana. They open conference play at home on Saturday, February 17 against #12 Alabama-Huntsville.
