TUNICA, Miss. — 47th ranked Mississippi College wrapped up the first round of the 2025 Gulf South Conference Women's Golf Championship in sixth place on Thursday, Apr. 17, finishing the day at 34-over par as play concluded at Tunica National Golf and Tennis Club.
Freshman
Ashlynd Madden led the Blue and Gold with a steady round of 78 (+6), carding matching 39s on both the front and back nine. Madden's round was highlighted by consistent play, including 11 pars and a birdie on the par-5 15th.
Fellow freshman
Sofia Mendez followed with an 80 (+8), bouncing back from a 42 on the front nine to shoot 38 on the back.
Desiree Herden (81), Fran Herrera Tallone (83), and Ana Quintanilla Gutierrez (83) rounded out the scoring for MC.
As a team, the Choctaws posted a first-round total of 322, placing them six strokes behind fifth-place Christian Brothers (+30) and 17 shots off the pace set by tournament leader Union University (+17). Defending champion West Florida and No. 11 Lee University ended the day tied for second at +18.
The GSC Championship continues Friday, Apr. 18 with round two tee times beginning in the morning.
