Clinton, Miss. — Mississippi College men's and women's tennis remained unbeaten with a pair of dominant 7-0 victories over Spring Hill College on Feb. 17 at the MC Tennis Complex.
With the sweeps, both Choctaw squads improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Men Roll Past Spring Hill
The MC men controlled the match from the outset, claiming all three doubles courts to secure the early point before sweeping singles play.
In doubles action, Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz opened with a 7-5 win at No. 1, while Mikayel Avanesyan and Charles Lefort matched the 7-5 score on Court 2. Florian Walcher and Simon Pfau sealed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
The Choctaws carried that momentum into singles competition, winning all six courts. Ricci battled to a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory at No. 1, while Ruiz (6-3, 6-4), Avanesyan (6-3, 6-3), Sergio Ramirez Ocana (6-3, 6-2), Walcher (6-1, 6-2) and Lucas de Carvalho (6-4, 6-0) each posted straight-set wins.
Women Dominate at Home
The MC women were equally impressive, surrendering just a handful of games across singles and doubles play.
Emily Buchanan led the charge with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Rocio Martinez (6-0, 6-0), Katharina Weber (6-1, 6-1), Rune Van Wyk (6-1, 6-0), Anna Hudson (6-0, 6-1) and Ann Cabot Stockett (6-0, 6-0) completed the singles sweep in decisive fashion.
In doubles, Buchanan and Stockett blanked their opponents 6-0 on Court 1. Weber and Van Wyk added a 6-3 victory at No. 2, and Martinez teamed with Hudson for a 6-0 win at No. 3 to secure the doubles point and cap the 7-0 result.
Mississippi College returns to action this weekend with a pair of road matches in Tyler, Texas. The Choctaws will face UT Permian Basin on Friday before taking on Lubbock Christian on Saturday.
