No. 11 Choctaws Top Delta State, 6-1

CLINTON, Miss. — The No. 11 Mississippi College men's tennis team continued its strong season Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over Delta State at the MC Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Choctaws improved to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play, extending their winning streak to one and remaining unbeaten at home in league action.

Mississippi College claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Mattia Ricci and Matias Ruiz set the tone at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory, while Charles Lefort and Mikayel Avanesyan followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2. Delta State picked up its lone doubles victory at the No. 3 position.

In singles play, the Choctaws dominated, winning five of six matches.

Ricci led the way at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win, while Ruiz added a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2. Florian Walcher controlled his match at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-3 decision, and Lucas Cavalvanti de Carvalho closed out a straight-set win at No. 6, 6-4, 6-1.

Sergio Ramirez Ocana battled through a three-set thriller at No. 5, rallying for a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory. Delta State earned its only point at No. 3 singles.

Mississippi College will return to action this weekend with a trio of road matches, beginning Saturday at Montevallo at 10 a.m. CT. The Choctaws will then travel to Montgomery on Sunday to face Auburn Montgomery at 10 a.m. before closing the weekend against Tuskegee at 3 p.m. CT.
