MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The No. 6 Mississippi College women's tennis team continued its dominant run through the Gulf South Conference, extending its unbeaten streak to 16 matches with a pair of victories over Montevallo Falcons and AUM Warhawks this weekend.
The Lady Choctaws (16-0, 5-0 GSC) opened play Saturday with a commanding 7-0 sweep of Montevallo, showcasing depth across the lineup after dropping the No. 1 doubles match.
Mississippi College quickly secured the doubles point with decisive wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Katharina Weber and Rune Van Wyk cruised to a 6-0 victory, while Rocio Martinez and Anna Hudson followed with a 6-1 win to give MC the early advantage.
In singles play, the Lady Choctaws were nearly flawless. Emily Buchanan led the way at No. 1 with a straight-set win, while Martinez, Weber, Van Wyk, Hudson and Ann Cabot Stockett each added dominant victories in straight sets to complete the sweep.
Mississippi College carried that momentum into Sunday's matchup against AUM in Montgomery, securing a 5-2 victory to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Choctaws claimed the doubles point once again, as Weber and Van Wyk earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 and Martinez and Hudson added a 6-3 victory at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished with the point already decided.
In singles, MC relied on its depth to secure the win. Weber delivered a strong performance at No. 3 with a straight-set victory, while Van Wyk battled through a three-set match at No. 4 to earn the clincher. Hudson (No. 5) and Stockett (No. 6) each posted convincing straight-set wins to seal the team victory.
AUM picked up wins at the top two singles positions, but the Lady Choctaws controlled the remainder of the lineup to secure the 5-2 decision.
With the weekend sweep, Mississippi College remains perfect overall and in conference play, continuing to build momentum as one of the top teams in the region.
