CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College men's and women's tennis teams picked up a pair of nonconference victories Thursday morning at the MC Tennis Complex, defeating Harding University in dominant fashion.
The No. 6 Lady Choctaws remained unbeaten on the season, rolling to a 6-1 win to improve to 16-0 overall. Mississippi College secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, highlighted by the nationally ranked duo of Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett, who claimed a 6-2 victory.
MC carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches in straight sets. Buchanan led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Rocio Martinez, Katharina Weber, Anna Hudson and Stockett each added convincing victories. Mariana Munoz closed out the match at No. 6 to seal the team result.
On the men's side, the No. 13 Choctaws earned a 6-1 victory over Harding, improving to 11-4 on the season. Mississippi College claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, including a 7-6 result from the nationally ranked tandem of Matias Ruiz and Mattia Ricci.
After dropping the top singles match, MC responded with five straight wins to secure the match. Ruiz battled to a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 2, while Florian Walcher added a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3. Mikayel Avanesyan, Sergio Ramirez Ocana and Lucas Cavalvanti de Carvalho each posted straight-set wins to complete the dominant showing.
Mississippi College returns to action Saturday, March 28, traveling to Lee University for a Gulf South Conference matchup. First serve is set for 9 a.m. CT.
