Fleming Inducted into Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame

PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. — Former Mississippi College football standout Terry Fleming was officially inducted into the Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame on Thursday evening during the 2026 GSC Awards presented by Caldwell Architects in Pensacola Beach, Fla.

Fleming was one of five members inducted as part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026, joining Franziska Bremm (West Georgia), Larry Carpenter (Lee), Janet Montgomery (West Alabama) and Shannon Williams (Valdosta State).

A dominant force for the Choctaws from 1985-89, Fleming left a lasting legacy at Mississippi College through his excellence on the field, leadership and consistency throughout his collegiate career.

Fleming earned American Football Coaches Association First Team All-America honors twice and was a three-time First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection. He was named the GSC Freshman of the Year in 1985 before earning the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor in 1989.

His impact extended beyond individual accolades, as Fleming was later selected to both the GSC Team of the Decade for the 1980s and the GSC Team of the Quarter Century (1971-95), cementing his place among the conference's all-time greats.

Following his career at Mississippi College, Fleming continued his football journey professionally with the Frankfurt Galaxy of the World League of American Football and the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. After graduating from Mississippi College in 1990 with a degree in physical education, he also signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League.

"The Class of 2026 exemplifies everything the Gulf South Conference stands for—competitive excellence, dedicated leadership, and a lifelong commitment to the values of collegiate athletics," GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson said. "Each of these honorees has made a profound impact on their institutions and our conference, and we are proud to celebrate their extraordinary achievements and lasting legacy."

The 2026 Hall of Fame class marks the 12th in Gulf South Conference history and brings the league's total Hall of Fame membership to 61.
