MOBILE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College Golf team fell three places to eighth in day two of the 2019 Gulf South Conference Championship from the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala. The Choctaws carded a round two score of 316 which puts them at 615 (+28) through two rounds of play.
The tournament was held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala. which features creeks, marshland, and lakes with each of the 54 holes carved through indigenous hardwood and pine. The renovations have made the courses more "player friendly" while still keeping the integrity of Robert Trent Jones' original design. The Crossings course, which has hosted LPGA Tour events, provides an open parkland type ambiance and plays an even par of 72.
The Choctaws carded a round one team score of 299 (+11) which was good enough to place them tied for fifth with Montevallo at the end of day one. During round two, MC suffered a setback shooting 316 as a team which when combined with the day one total of 299 gives them their current total of 615 (+28) which is good enough for eighth place after day two of the tournament. West Florida is still the current leading team after day two with a score of 581 (+5). Following the Argonauts are Montevallo, Valdosta State Lee, Delta State, West Georgia and Union.
Junior
David Barry is now the Choctaws highest finisher amongst individuals after day two. Barry currently sits tied for 20
th with a total score of 152 (+8). Junior
Force Choi followed Barry tied for 25
th with a total score of 153 (+9). Choi did card the lowest score of the second round for the Choctaws shooting a 75 (+3) for the day. Behind Choi was the highest finisher from day one
Seth Foshee and
Jacob Berry. Foshee and Berry both have a total score of 155 (+11) which has them both tied for 32
nd. Rounding out the Choctaws was Senior
Zach Anderson who currently sits in 48
th with a total score of 168 (+24).
The final round of the 2019 GSC Championship will continue tomorrow from the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala. Groups for the final round of the tournament will be sent off in ten-minute intervals. The first tee time of day two will be at 8:00 A.M.
