CLINTON, Miss. --- Sophomore
Baylee Freudenberg has been named Gulf South Conference Softball Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday (March 10).
Freudenberg (League City, Texas) hit .538 (7-of-13) with four home runs, two doubles and seven RBI as the Lady Choctaws went 5-0 on the week, including a three-game road sweep of Shorter. For the week, Baylee posted a .647 on-base percentage with a 1.615 slugging percentage, reaching base on 11-of-17 plate appearances over five games.
Baylee became the first Lady Choctaw since Brooke Smitherman in 2014 to hit three home runs in a single game, turning the trick in the series-opening 8-0 win over the Hawks. She backed that up with a grand slam in the 6-0 win over Shorter on Sunday.
On the season, Freudenberg is hitting .273 with five home runs, two doubles and 11 RBI. She has also scored nine runs and leads the team with a .788 slugging percentage.
She becomes the third Lady Choctaw to earn a GSC weekly award this season after
Rayne Minor was named Freshman of the Week (Feb. 4) and
Hannah Creel earned Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 11) honors.
The Lady Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action this afternoon when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. for a doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist at 3:00 p.m.
