BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Mississippi College's
Fabio Palmieri and
Al Ferrill landed Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday, March 9.

Palmieri was tabbed the outdoor track performer of the week while Ferrill garnered the field top performer of the week. This marks the first outdoor accolade for either student-athlete. Ferrill was named the indoor field performer of the week on Feb. 2, 2022.

Palmieri wrapped up three event wins during the Mississippi College Outdoor Season Opener. The Cape Town, West Cape, South Africa, native won the men's 100 meters and 200 meters during the event on Saturday. He posted a NCAA provisional mark in the 100 as he clocked a 10.49. He added a second, individual event title with a NCAA provisional time of 21.10 in the 200. The junior also anchored the 4x100 relay team that finished first as the foursome recorded a time of 41.59.

Ferrill picked up event wins in the shot put and weight throw. He bested a field of 30 in the shot put as he posted a distance of 15.61 meters. The Tickfaw, La., junior followed with a toss of 45.76 meters in the hammer as he topped a field of 20 competitors. He also added a fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 44.59 meters.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, March 25 with a pair of road meets. The Choctaws will split the weekend between the Magnolia State and the Tar Heel State. The Choctaws will take part in the two-day Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays in Mississippi State, Miss., and the two-day Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.
