Choctaws Finish Third at Matt Dyas Invitational

CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College men's golf team wrapped up its 2023 fall slate with a third-place finish at the Matt Dyas Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia at the Oak Mountain Golf Club. MC completed the two-day tournament with a team score of 896.
 
Jeff Lebeau emerged as the top Choctaw as he finished tied for fourth place with a three-round score of 220 and only two spots back of the top individual, Union University's Trace Robinson. The Sherbrooke, Ontario, native opened his tournament with a 72 and followed with a 77 on the second round. He wrapped up his play on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with a 71. The round matched his lowest of the season set in the final round at the Nova Southeastern University hosted, Shark Invitational. The junior had an eagle or better on eight holes.
 
Ethan Korock, the reigning Gulf South Conference Golfer of the Week, finished one stroke back of his former Odessa College teammate as he stood tied for sixth. The Jonestown, Texas, product shot a 77 in the opening, but closed out his play with back-to-back rounds of 72 to compile a score of 221. He shot an eagle or better on seven holes over the two days.
 
Alexander Topgaard finished tied for 15th with a score of 226. The Copenhagen, Germany, junior fired his best round of the Invitational with a 73 in the second round. He bookended his tournament with a 77 in the opening round and a 76 in his final round.
 
Will Porter, who made his collegiate debut, compiled a score of 233 as he finished tied for 31st. A redshirt freshman from Cordova, Tenn., closed out his action with his best round of the tournament with a 74 on Tuesday. He posted an 81 in the opening round and bettered his score by three strokes (78) in the second round.
 
Rohan Miah closed out the Invitational for the Blue and Gold with a score of 237 as she finished in 35th place. The Horsham, England, native fired his best round of the tournament with a 74 in the second round as his play was bookended with an 81 in the first round and an 82 in the final round.
 
Union took the overall team title with a score of 891 while Delta State University took second with an 893. Loyola University of New Orleans' Preston Giroir and DSU's Pongbhob Jamornsrianan tied for second with a score of 219 – one stroke back of Union's Robinson in first place.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Monday, Feb. 12 as it travels to Humble, Texas, for the Southern Nazarene University-hosted Houston Classic at the Golf Club of Houston.
