CLINTON, Miss. --- Baseball outfielder JT Vance and Track & Field athlete Lauren Wallace were named Mississippi College Student-Athletes of the Week Presented by Performance Therapy.  

Vance was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region and Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, following a dominant showing in the Choctaws' weekend sweep of Miles College.  The Junior was responsible for 11 RBIs on the week, including a GSC-leading seven in the Choctaws' 21-5 win over Miles.  The Union, Miss. native totaled eight hits on the week, with six extra-base hits and a home run.  He is currently batting .533 1.267 slugging percentage and .588 on-base percentage.
  
Wallace was one of several Choctaws to stand out at the Pitt State Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., and was named GSC Track Athlete of the Week.  Her relay squad, including Hilary Udechukwu, Taylor Benoit, and Jazmin Russell, was the first in school history to post a time under 11:40, breaking an MC record and placing 6th in the nation.  Individually, the sophomore from Hoover, Ala. broke another school record with her time in 800m of just 2:13.12, placing her atop the GSC and inside the top 50 nationally.  

Choctaw baseball is back in action this weekend against UAH, with the weekend series kicking off on Friday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. wrapping up on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Track & Field are back on the road for the 2024 Indoor GSC Track and Field Championships starting on Thursday, Feb. 15, and taking place in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
