Women's Golf Sets Program Record in Opening Tournament of 2024-25

MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The Mississippi College women's golf team set a new program record for the lowest round score as they started the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational, hosted by Rhodes College at the Mirimichi Golf Course. The Choctaws posted an impressive 285 in the first round, securing the top spot on the leaderboard.
MC finished three under par, outpacing the second-place Rhodes Lynx by seven strokes, who carded a 292.
Newcomer Tina Honnef made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, shooting a two-under 70 to tie for the individual lead with Piedmont University's Erin Donovan.
All five Choctaw golfers placed in the top 10, with three finishing in the top five. Ana Quintanilla Gutierrez and Ashlynd Madden were just one stroke behind Honnef, tying for third place with a 71. Gutierrez's score marked a personal best.
Fran Herrera Tallone shot even-par 73s, tying for ninth place and helping to boost the Choctaws' team score. Tallone finished just one stroke shy of her career best.

Mississippi College will conclude the tournament with the final two rounds on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
