CLINTON, Miss. --- Juniors Abbey Salvo and Payton Yawn have been named Mississippi College Renasant Bank Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Monday (April 15).

Salvo (Brandon, Miss.) helped lead the Lady Choctaws to a 3-game sweep of Shorter, outscoring the Hawks 23-0. The MS Gulf Coast CC transfer went 4-of-7 (.571) at the plate, tying for the team-high with four hits and three runs scored.

Salvo entered the starting lineup in the doubleheader against Spring Hill and the Lady Choctaws have gone 8-0 over that stretch. She has hit safely in 7-of-8 games with seven runs scored and four RBI.

Salvo and the Lady Choctaws have clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament with two series remaining. MC will travel to Livingston this weekend for a three-game series with West Alabama, opening on Friday night.

Yawn (Osyka, Miss.) led the team with six RBI this week, including five in the weekend series with Shorter. Yawn hit .300 during the week with key hits in all three contests for the Choctaws, including a two-RBI triple in the series finale against the Hawks to secure the sweep.

Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 as they travel to Magnolia, Ark., to face Southern Arkansas. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
